Deutsch Eins bei Romeo and Powell Middle Schools
Willkommen! Welcome to Deutsch Eins! This year we will study various themes, including appropriate vocabulary, grammar, and cultural information. By the end of this year you will be able to talk about yourself, hobbies and interests, family, money, school, where you live, clothing, colors, chores, weather, and shopping at the grocery store.
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS, PROCEDURES, AND GRADING POLICIES
Materials:
To be successful in this class, it is highly suggested that you
bring the following materials to class everyday:
A folder or 3 ring binder to keep all German papers
A writing utensil and paper
Expectations:
1. Be prepared - Come to class on time with your supplies and a positive attitude
2. Be an active learner - Tell me if you don't understand something, ask questions, participate in class discussion
3. Be respectful of people, culture, ideas, and the environment
***Extreme misconduct, such as swearing, harassing or bullying another student, excessive disruptive behavior or getting your name left by a substitute will result in an immediate detention, visit to the principal’s office, and phone call home.
Attendance:
It is especially important in a language class to attend every day. Your knowledge of the language will be built in small blocks through daily practice. If it is necessary to miss class, please ensure that you get the necessary notes and assignments for the missed days. All missed worksheets will be located in the “Was habe ich verpasst?” box in the classroom. Students can reference the absent binder when they miss a class.
Tardies:
You are tardy if you are not in the room when the bell rings. If you are in the room, but running around and yelling like a German barbarian, then you are tardy. You need to be in your seat and ready to learn. I don’t waste your time, so please don’t waste mine :)
Assignments:
Each day will begin with a warm-up assignment which will be randomly graded
Essays, impromptus, and various written activities
Oral skills and listening comprehension activities
Participation – class time is to be used exclusively for GERMAN. Your participation in activities, partner work, and individual work will be graded
Vocab, grammar and content quizzes and tests
Homework:
Expect to have homework in this class regularly. Sometimes you will need your workbook or a worksheet; other times you might need to study for a quiz/test or rehearse for an oral evaluation.
Make-up Work:
If you are absent from class, you are responsible for making up all missed work. In order to get full credit, you have
as many days to make up the work as you were absent. Any work turned in after that will be considered late work ( minus 10% per day). If you knew about a quiz/test beforehand (like if you were there for the review), you will take it in class the day you return. If you need to make up a quiz or a test, then it is your responsibility to schedule a time to make up your test.
Grades:
New grades will be posted frequently. Please feel free to ask for a grade printout whenever necessary. Grades are given according to the middle school grading policy, which is now common in both buildings.
